EMI Introduces Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and
Stabilization (PEARS) Course
PEARS is for any healthcare provider who might encounter pediatric
patients in their profession.
It is an intermediate course to equip healthcare providers to
recognize and begin stabilization of the pediatric victim prior to a
respiratory or cardiac arrest, in an interactive environment.
PEARS
prepares students to assess, categorize, decide and act early to
stabilize the child. The main focus of PEARS is prevention, and
specifically the assessment, recognition and stabilization of
pediatric victims at risk of severe cardiopulmonary distress.

2010 ATCN Courses Announced
The ATCN Course is taught concurrently with Advanced Trauma Life Support for Physicians (ATLS). This is an advanced level nursing course designed to increase the nurse's knowledge in the management of the multiple trauma patient based on the ATLS standards of trauma care.
ATCN is overseen by the Society of Trauma Nurses. This course targets the experienced nurse practicing in the following areas: Prehospital and Aeromedical, Emergency Department, Surgical Intensive Care Units, and the Operating Room.
The Course Dates for 2010 have been announced:
• June 23 & 24 2010
• September 8 & 9 2010
• November 3 & 4 2010

Registered nurses from the ICU, ED, OR and the medical-surgical areas as well as social workers, respiratory therapy and pre-hospital personnel. All these members are key stakeholders in the continuum of care for our trauma patients. The 2010 Trauma Continuum Conference’s goal is to enhance knowledge in trauma-related injuries and how the treatment/care of patients can be supported across the continuum.
